Find A Practitioner in Idaho

This is a directory of members of the Idaho Acupuncture Association who are licensed or certified to practice in the state of Idaho. While we believe that licensure or certification is a measure of competency, we are not responsible for the professional competence, diagnosis, methodology, or treatment decisions of any individual acupuncturist.

Acupuncturist Certification

Licensed Acupuncturists (L.Ac.) are trained in acupuncture and oriental medicine. The state of Idaho requires Licensed Acupuncturists to undergo a minimum 1725 hour Acupuncture program, although oriental medicine degrees are often over 3200 hours. This training usually includes the full complement of Oriental medicine modalities. Most Licensed Acupuncturists are certified through the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM).

Certified Acupuncturists (C.Ac.) are required to complete training in acupuncture with a proficiency exam, the amount of which varies according to profession. Most Certified Acupuncturists have 100-300 hours of training in acupuncture. Allopathic Physicians (MD's) may practice acupuncture in Idaho with no training, but may elect to voluntarily become certified. Most Certified Acupuncturists (C.A.c) are Chiropractic Physicians (DC's) or Naturopathic Physicians (ND's), but can be other types of licensed health care professionals as well.

Acupuncture Technicians (Ac.T.) are individuals who have completed the requirements for a clinical technician certificate as approved by the acupuncture board and require supervision by a licensed or certified acupuncturist. They are restricted to specified therapies and treatments.
